INCONTINENCE

Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine or stool that occurs when the mucosal seal, active mechanism, or anatomic mechanism for continence does not function well.

DIAGNOSIS
Common patient populations that may benefit from our program include:

  • Status-post radical prostatectomy
  • Women who are pregnant or post-partum
  • Pelvic Prolapse (especially grade I and II)
  • Spina bifida (children, teenagers and adults)
  • Spinal cord injury / cauda equina syndrome
  • Runners / high impact sport athletes
  • Status-post radical cystectomy
  • Status-post colon surgery
  • Stress, urge, or mixed incontinence
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Constipation

TREATMENT
A specific treatment plan is developed based on the unique history and physical examination of each patient that extends beyond the basic Kegel exercise program.
Specific treatments may include:

  • Extensive patient education
  • Pelvic floor exercises
  • Biofeedback
  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation
  • Behavioral modifications for bowel and bladder habits
